Right, so I’ve been wanting to visit Japan for years and years and years and never got the chance to go.
This year finally I thought its my chance so I booked my flights from London to Tokyo Narita – for the 22nd of March (next week). And right now Japan is hit by it’s worth earthquake followed by a tsunami followed by explosions at nuclear plants as a result of this.
“A huge earthquake struck just off the east coast of Japan at 5.46am GMT, Friday 11 March 2011. The magnitude 8.9 quake was one of the largest ever recorded, it was close to the surface and only 80 miles from the city of Sendai.” (quote from: http://www.dec.org.uk/item/497).
The timing scares me. I fear for all the people hit by these 2 natural disasters. My friends tell me Tokyo is still feeling aftershocks today on a richter scale of 3-4 and all the schools, shops and public transport in Tokyo has shut down. People have raided supermarkets for supplies in fear and preparation of radioactive rain following the explosions at the nuclear plant – with more such explosions feared.
What can I do from here? Little if not nothing at all. Things like this make you realise how small and insignificant we are as individuals no matter how almighty we might like to think we are.
I pray for the poor people in Sendai and further neighbouring regions who have been hit by this disaster and hope they receive all the relief and support possible.
