The genius that is Tom Ford has ventured into cinema and his debut movie as a director ‘A Single Man’ seems to be picking up award nominations wherever you look. Tom Ford is an ultimately stylish man and the movie seems to live up to the style standards expected of a man who was the creative director of Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent at the same time and then went on with the uber-successful Tom Ford brand.
A Single Man is a 2009 American drama film directed by the ex-Gucci-designer Tom Ford. It’s based on the novel by Christopher Isherwood and stars Firth as a British professor living in California who’s trying to move on after the loss of his lover. The film follows him through one day of his life as he deals with his emotions, acquaintances, and past decisions that brought him to this point.

The film premiered on September 11, 2009 at the 66th Venice International Film Festival and was nominated for the Golden Lion. Colin Firth was awarded the Coppa Volpi for Best Actor at the film festival for his performance in the film and movie will have a limited release in the US to qualify for the 2010 Oscar nominations. It is then expected to be released for wider public (international) viewing sometime in the beginning of February 2010.
